As part of the West 17 Main Street project, The City of Calgary will be upgrading water infrastructure in the area. These upgrades are required due to the age and condition of the existing system, as well as to accommodate future development in the area.
From May 3 to May 20, the intersection at 17 Avenues and 26 Street S.W. will be closed. There will be two-way traffic on the eastbound lanes of 17 Avenue SW. Roadway users will be detoured to 27 and 25A Street. We know that this may impact your community, and ask that you please share this notice with them (attached). What to expect
We appreciate your patience while crews are working in your area. We know that construction impacts can be disruptive, and we will work to mitigate impacts as best that we can.
What you can expect during construction:
When construction is underway, here's what you can expect:
An increase in on-site construction activity, including construction crews, vehicles and heavy equipment. Including an increase in noise and vibration throughout construction.
Sidewalk closures and detours will ensure pedestrians and cyclists can travel safely through the area and still access their destinations.
The temporary removal of some parking, road closures and road detours.
An increase in truck and equipment traffic accessing the construction sites and surrounding areas, material removal and delivery, as well as on-site flaggers to help direct traffic.
Regular work hours will be 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday, with the occasional Sunday work required to reduce traffic impacts.
There may be vibrations due to compaction equipment.
Waste and recycling collection will not be disrupted.
For safety reasons, the worksite will be fenced, and access will be restricted to construction personnel only. Please keep children and pets away from the work area.
Please note, construction in an older community like this means that sometimes we run into surprises during construction. We don't anticipate any issues, but the timeline could be impacted should we discover any surprises.
